Home Away from Home
Home Away from Home
Our children grow up in several frameworks within our village
Family Home Care Units of Ahava
At “Ahava” there are three educational-therapeutic frameworks, each with its own director and team.
Beit Noga – which includes 4 family home care units for children aged 6 to 12
Beit Neta – which includes 5 family home care units for youth aged 13 to 18
Beit Bareket – which includes 4 family home care units for youth aged 13 to 18
All together there are 13 family home care units which are home to around 156 children.
All of our frameworks operate based on the family home care model.
The family home care model is founded on the understanding that a stable home, mentor figures, and a sense of belonging foster feelings of safety, security and trust- both in others and in oneself. In each family home care unit 12 children and their counselors live under one roof. The counselors are a married couple who live onsite in an attached apartment. The structure and décor of the apartments are a direct reflection of the homelike model.
The counselors are responsible for the daily routine of the children. The daily routine closely mirrors that of a typical family, from shared meals in the family unit and accompanying the children to school, to doing laundry, enjoying free time, participating in after-school activities, and ending the day with bedtime stories.
Day Care Unit
“Enriching Family Strength” Program
The Day Care Unit is attended by children from the local community. The program offers the advantages of the family home care model but operates during daytime hours, without overnight stays. The children receive therapeutic, educational, and social support, and in the evening, they return to their homes to sleep. The day care program accommodates 30 children aged 6 to 13.
Educational Framework
Educational Framework at Ahava and the Ahava School for Special Education
More than half of the children at Ahava Children and Youth Village attend the Ahava School for Special Education (grades 1–9), located on the village grounds and operated by the Zevulun Regional Council.
The rest of the children study in approximately 20 different schools within the community.
Each child is placed in a school according to their abilities, personal skills, needs, and preferences.
Attending community schools allows the children to gain independence and integrate into society. In addition, every afternoon throughout the week, a learning center operates within the village, offering tutoring in a variety of subjects.

The Residential Unit
Up to 20 children between the ages of 3 and 14 are admitted by court order to the residential unit, following an acute event or crisis in their life or home.
The residential unit serves as a safe and nurturing home, providing for all their immediate needs and offering protection.
The therapeutic staff is there to administer comprehensive diagnosis and provide short term therapy. Towards the end of a child’s stay and in accordance with recommendations by the team, social services establish a decisive committee to determine the most appropriate framework for the child to continue on to.
The Advisory Treatment Unit
In this unit 85 children and their families receive treatment during a complex family crisis, with the goal of preventing removal of the child from the home. The types of treatment and counseling are adapted to the needs of the family and the child.
18+ Program
warm homes
Four warm homes for 30 youth aged 18 and up, who are lacking family support, and who have finished their time in out-of-home care. These youth receive guidance and career counseling from social workers and counselors. A program requirement is enlistment in the army/national service or employment and they are required to support themselves financially. This program is run by the organization “Yeladim b’Sikoi” (Fair Chance for Children).
